Brain Drain: A Threat to Development
Brain drain is a major issue facing developing countries. It refers to the mass emigration of skilled professionals to developed nations. This phenomenon has several causes and serious effects.
There are two main causes: push and pull factors. Push factors include low wages and unemployment in the home country. Professionals feel undervalued. Pull factors, like high salaries and better labs abroad, attract them to leave.
Consequently, the effects are damaging. The home country loses its human capital, which slows down economic growth. Hospitals lose doctors, and schools lose teachers.
In conclusion, although migration is a personal choice, governments must improve conditions to keep their talents at home.
